June 5, 2007 -- The decoration of the Dobbins POW/MIA Memorial Park is a long-term plan, but several park sponsors are on board to help us in the initial planning stage for defining decoration needs. We'll provide some of the details when they start coming into place. In the photo from the left are Harry Housen, Brian Albini, and Mathew Israel of Woods+Partners, a architectural landscaping firm in Atlanta, and Rick Saylors from Mableton Marble and Granite, who is supplying the monuments for the park. Harry and his team are going to provide a planting scheme and perspective of how we can make the park a showcase for base personnel and visitors. May 21, 2007 -- Below, a special ceremony at the Dobbins POW/MIA Memorial Park---Celebrating
the 60th Anniversary of the Air Force across the country, Dobbins
ARB and the Atlanta metro region make up one of the six host locations
for the official celebration. One of the events in conjunction with
the celebration in the Atlanta region was an essay contest about the
Air Force. Winners of the contest joined base officials at the park
to be recognized for their essays. Opening the ceremony were members
of the 94th Airlift Wing Honor Guard that included from the left:
Senior Airman Natalie Hubble, Staff Sgt. Raymond Bell, and Technical
Sgt. Lena Tamplin.

the left: It was a tight landing, but this C-130 miniature rests in
the middle of the park to join the essay contest winners in their celebration.
A light moment for the park, but one that is drawing the park into the
main stream of Dobbins activities. The esplanade area provides the space
and setting for base events, and the prominence of the location makes
it a key area for outdoor gatherings.

of the contest winners a certificate, check, and special Disney publication.
Supporting the event and providing cash for the winners were the Dobbins
56 Group, Dobbins Top Three, and Dobbins First Sergeants Group. These
groups also lend a hand in supporting other park activities. Representatives
of the Dobbins Chiefs Group that is decorating and memorializing the
park are at the right. Chiefs Joyce Scott, the MC (right), and Carolyn
Bunch moved the ceremony along.
Mar 19, 2007 -- An addition to the park this winter has been the lighting. Along
with the newly donated flags, spring has brought a new look. And, the
grass is growing again. With the lighting, the flags are spotlighted,
and the walkways are lighted as well.
