2006 Contributors

  • It's a new season, and as we begin to raise money for memorial plaques and Park benches, we have picked up a nice gift from the group who kicked off the memorial 22 years ago. The Air Force Sergeants Association Auxiliary, Chapter 452. A small but effective group, they are dedicated to continuing the ongoing traditions at the Dobbins POW/MIA Memorial Park. They gave us $100 and will be there supporting the Tree Planting this year and next year. Click here to meet the group.
  • And, individual contributors helped grow the tally as Helen Free and Edna Morris both contributed $25. Thanks for your support.
  • Craig Campbell, your thank-you letter is in the mail and we appreciate the $50 donation. Chief Les Davy said you were a true supporter of the cause. Thanks!
  • We picked up our first business sponsor recently as Marietta Trophy and Engraving donated their time and expertise to help place memorials in the Park. Fred Williams and his group have always been supportive of Dobbins Air Reserve Base, and we encourage you to support them if you get a chance. With Fred's assistance, we are placing a product in our Park that will endure for generations. Here's a link for their business: /http://www.mariettatrophy.com/.
  • James Branch is an active member of the Dobbins 56 Group, an enlisted Dobbins ARB organization that assists with base and community projects in a variety of ways. James spent a lot of his extra time researching and coming up with the design for our plaques and if our renderings hold their course, he certainly will be appreciated in September.
  • May 17, 2006, is a good day indeed. We have picked up a $1,500 sponsor. The Dobbins Officers Wives Club has ensured us that our World War II plaque will be paid for. This group is made up of a number of veteran's wives who lived through those war years and who have husbands who served during the war. They have a sincere appreciation and a deep understanding for what we want to accomplish in September. They also operate the Dobbins Thrift Shop. So stop by and buy a little something and give them a donation. The Thrift Shop chairman and co-chairman met us at the Park on May 25 to really give us a boost. Meet them by clicking here.
  • Many thanks to Greg Bricker, president, Air Force Association, Chapter 331, for going to bat for us at the AFA May meeting. This is the Dobbins chapter, and they came through for the Park in a big way. Art Johnson, the group's treasurer sent us a $250 check. If you are not familiar with the Air Force Association, they have state organizations and more than 230 chapters that are geared to educate the public about the critical role of aerospace power in the defense of our nation and to increase public understanding of key national security issues in their communities. Made up of volunteers, the association also provides education, scholarships, grants, awards, and not to mention their awesome and renowned Air Force Magazine. Take the time to learn more about them: http://www.afa.org/.
  • And what about a couple of Honorary Sponsors. Somebody has to roll up their sleeves, sweat some, and keep it trimmed and clean cut. Thanks guys.
  • An update to say that the Georgia Disabled American Veterans organization is sending us a $250 donation. I first met Tim Hammons, the group's president, at the Park dedication in 2005. He and his organization wanted to help make our Park better and now they have. These veterans, who have already given so much to our country, continue to give in ways that should impress the rest of us. There are two groups of veterans that we always shake a hand with and those are our former POWs and disabled veterans. We'll have a picture up soon, but in the meantime, play some golf with them in this fund raiser on July 24. And here's a link to the DAV web page http://www.dav.org/.
  • Our newest sponsors are from Canton, Ga. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Chapter 5262, in Canton, has given us a great donation of $150. What a fun group. They meet once a month, have a good time, share a meal, and talk about current events and their days in uniform, not to mention all of their community service activities. Jack Dempsey, the quartermaster, ensures the food's just right. And, George Moore, the chapter's president is a long-time member and supporter of the VFW and promotes the group all over Cherokee County. We'll be adding some photos from the group, and adding them to our memorial dedication mailing list.
  • Just a quick update to say that we're getting ready to go into the Park's second round of fund raising this year. Our Park account has $2,350. That will take care of the first plaque and some benches, and gives us a start on the granite or marble monuments on which we plan to place the four plaques. We plan to have a table at the Park with a couple of retired chiefs, who would appreciate your donations on September 22nd. Also, the Air Force Sergeants Association is planning a fund raiser later this year. Letters and phone calls will be going out soon to organizations like our first Park sponsors to ensure that the Korean War plaque and monuments will be available for us in 2007.
  • During the World War II plaque dedication, we received $100 dollars in donations, not to mention all of the financial and physical support from the Air Force Sergeants Association for the reception and tree planting. A special thanks to all of the dedication attendees and to these new Park sponsors:
    • James Roshak
    • Al Hall
    • Tommy Clack
    • Earl Davis
    • Mark Brown
    • Jack Clarence
    • James Garett
    • George Atkinson
    • Margaret Underwood
    • Anthony Benson
    • Les Davy
    • William Price
    • Allen Drake
  • We paid for the plaque and the reusable flags that we placed in the Park at a cost of $1,025 leaving us 1,425. We have a couple of donations in the pipeline and will provide a year-end standing along with a new Park sponsor.
  • To cover the cost of the reception, flowers, promotional materials for the planting ceremony, AFSA contributed $500. Also the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 2681, located on Powers Ferry Road in Marietta contributed $100 for ceremony. Each year, their donation is directed toward the purchase of a tree for the planting ceremony.
  • Our last, but certainly not least contributor, for 2006 is the Hogg Construction Company. They presented the Dobbins Chiefs Group a $3,000 donation of which $1,500 was for the POW/MIA Park. We'll have more about the donation when we recognize the company and its individuals for their support. With this donation, we are adding the four basic monuments to the Park in the spring of 2007. The donation came from Michel Martel, and all of us in the Dobbins Chiefs Group really appreciate his support.
  • We close the year with a balance of $2,934, and are ready to start work on 2007 events recognizing the sacrifices of our Korean War POW/MIAs.
